The best part of spring is watching last years flowers slowly blooming out of the ground and watching nature come back to life. As soon as the weather starts to warm up, we all want to spend more time outdoors. It is important that we care for our outdoor space like we do indoor.

How to get your front door spring ready

First, you MUST clean everything ! Starting with wiping down all the windows to remove any dirt or pollen. Wipe down any other surfaces like mailboxes, doorbells, and outdoor decor. A good power washing of your homes exterior will leave the siding and walkways squeaky clean.

Second, it’s time to get the garden and landscape ready. Start with cleaning up any leftover leaves or branches from last season. Clean flower beds and remove dead branches and leaves for new growth. Always cut any branches on an angle to promote new growth of the plant. This is a great time to search for fresh flowers that could be added to the landscaping. Every April, Lowes has a big sale on their mulch (5 bags for $10) so definitely take advantage to freshen up your flower beds. Additionally, search for any floral sales. My local landscaping company sells seasonal flowers 3 for $15. A tip I use when selecting which flowers to plant in my garden is doing some research about what grows best in your zone. Try to test a new plant each year and see which one thrives in your homes garden.
TIP plant the bulbs for tulips in the fall for the best results.

Next, it’s time to furnish and decorate. Place any outdoor seating on the porch or patio. Freshen up and remove any faded outdoor cushions. Home Goods and Home Sense have a big selection of outdoor pillows that are sun resistant.

How to Style a Layered Doormat for Spring Front Door

A layered doormat can be an easy and affordable way to decorate the front door this spring. We always keep a season friendly doormat that doesn’t conflict with any holidays( I just replace it when it gets ugly). It is important to make sure the bottom layer of your layered doormat is larger than the top. Try not to get very light colors because they will get ruined in the weather (made this mistake ).

Typical front door mats are about 18×30 and are well suited for a single front door. I found that a 2×3 layered rug is a great size for the average doormat. This Martha Stewart Rug from Home Sense was the perfect touch of spring for my front door. The top mat is from Target.
